Ottoman house

This photo was taken inside a 200 year old Ottoman house in Yesil. It is made almost entirely of wood, and the walls have beautiful wooden panelling as you can see in the picture.

The wooden construction makes the house safer in earthquakes, apparently, because it is flexible.

Wood is a wonderful material to work in. I feel sure that the master carpenters put a lot of love into these walls. I love the sound of a knock on wood - the resonance has such depth. I have just located a Sunday morning course here in Sydney that will show me how to work properly with wood.
